The project is located on the first floor of a century-old preserved building at No. 133 Middle Sichuan Road, Shanghai, and builds a contemporary retail space based on the spirit of the architectural heritage. Relying on the advantage of 6-meter height, the second floor structure is partially constructed, preserving the original wooden window coverings, black cast iron window frames and plaster carving lines on the top surface and other historical components. The floor is remodeled with aged wooden flooring, whose mottled texture creates a time-space dialog with the architectural texture.
As an integrated space for independent designer labels, specializing in self-designed apparel and vintage selections, the layout plan focuses on building a flowing narrative scene. The hardcover adheres to the principle of 鈥渞estoring the old as the old鈥, only restoring the original wall surfaces, and activating the tension of the space through the implantation of contemporary art installations. The soft furnishings are selected from Pierre Jeanneret and other masters' furniture works, and Picasso's limited edition prints and Basquiat's authentic works are specially displayed to build a field of artistic dialog across time and space.
The design is based on the core concept of 鈥渟patial retreat鈥, and through the restoration strategy of restrained intervention in the historical building, the 19th century Art Deco decorative details and the 20th century art collection form a multi-dimensional intertext. Contemporary clothing, as the protagonist of the space, naturally grows a unique cultural magnetic field through the interweaving of historical folds and artistic aura. The final presentation not only perpetuates the architectural heritage, but also gives the brand a new narrative dimension.
